Cuisinart TOB-135 Review – Brushed Stainless Steel Toaster Oven

Cuisinart has quite a few toaster oven models with each one selling at a different price point. The ones that use dials as the controls are cheaper than digital models. The convection feature will also add to the cost. For the Cuisinart TOB-135, it is an upper end model with digital display and convection heating. The review below will reveal more about this toaster oven.

Cuisinart TOB-135 Review : What Are The Cooking Functions?

cuisinart tob-135 deluxe toaster oven

Altogether, there are 9 functions. For Toast and Bagel, the shade selection ranges from 1 to 7. Pressing the shade button and rotating the selector dial will enable you to choose your darkness level. There is also a Defrost function to thaw frozen bread prior to toasting. The Bake, Broil, Reheat and Keep Warm functions have preset temperature and time settings for your convenience. But you can also change them with the selector dial, if required. There is also a Convection feature for Bake and Broil to reduce cooking time.

The toaster oven has a 2-hour timer and it will shut-off automatically once the countdown reaches zero. The unit will beep when the food is ready. You can stop the cooking at any time with the Start/Stop button. You can also change the temperature, toast shade and time in the middle of a cooking cycle by pressing the respective buttons and rotating the selector dial to the desired setting. This means you don’t have to stop the cooking and turn off the heating elements mid-way to re-program the settings once cooking has begun.

The display panel has a blue backlit LCD screen with LED buttons. There is also a clock built-in. The unit employs a Exact Heat sensor to maintain a more precise temperature while the Always Even Shade feature ensures consistency in toast shade results.

With a brushed stainless steel exterior and nonstick interior, clean-up is easy after cooking. The crumb tray also slides out from underneath the oven for easy disposal of crumbs.

The Cuisinart TOB-135 has an exterior dimension of 18.3″ wide by 15.3″ deep by 9.3″ high. These measurements are inclusive of the side bumpers and front handle. The interior measures approximately 12.5″ (W) x 11.5 (D) x 6.5″ (H). It will be able to toast 6 slices of bread in one batch or fit a 12″ pizza.

Cuisinart TOB-135 vs TOB-100

Cuisinart TOB-100

Both of these models are digital toaster ovens. But there are 2 main differences that we can see. One is the size. The TOB-135 is slightly bigger. It is about 3″ wider and can fit 6 slices of bread instead of 4 for the TOB-100.

The second main difference is the convection feature. The Cuisinart TOB-100 has no convection heating. It also has a lower wattage (1400 watts).

Overall, the price difference is quite huge between these 2 models. At the time of writing, you will need to pay about $90 more for the TOB-135 compared to the smaller model.

Should You Buy The Cuisinart TOB-135 Deluxe Convection Toaster Oven?

  1. Simple to use – The combination of a selector dial and LED buttons makes it intuitive to use. When a button is pressed, the LCD display will flash which will prompt you to rotate the dial to the desired setting. Pressing Start/Stop will begin the cooking cycle. There is certainly little complication with this straightforward controls design. A similar toaster oven that combines digital display with keypads and dials is the Breville BOV450XL.
  2. Option to turn off the beeps – You can turn off all the electronic sounds if you find it too loud or annoying. Not many digital ovens have this option to cut down on the noise level.
  3. Fan is quiet – The convection fan is fairly quiet when turned on. It does not rattle like some units do. The Oster TSSTTVMNDG is another unit that has this same compliment from users.
  4. Rack height options – There are 2 slots for the racks. Combined with the rack design, you can actually get 4 slightly different heights by flipping the rack over. If you want more rack slots, you will need to look for a taller unit. The Breville BOV800XL has 3 rack heights but it is over 11″ high compared to 9.3″ for this Cuisinart model.
  5.  Always Even Shade feature – The toast shade is consistent each time and the darkness is evenly spread out. Overall, most buyers are satisfied with the cooking results from this unit.
  1. Buttons difficult to read – The wordings on the buttons are difficult to read when the light surrounding them lights up. Some buyers find it hard to differentiate between the Time and Temperature buttons.
  2. Dial overshoots – It is easy to overshoot when setting the temperature with the selector dial. It is pretty sensitive, so aiming for a precise temperature can be a little difficult. If you want a digital toaster oven, the alternative would be to use only keypads instead of dials. For this, you can try the Black & Decker CTO6335S.
  3. LCD display goes on and off – Quite a few complaints have been seen about the finicky LCD display. The light goes on and off randomly. Although it does not interfere with the operations of the oven, it is still a nuisance to see it alternating between on and off for no apparent reason.

For a 6-slice digital convection toaster oven broiler, this model is expensive. You can get other brands for less than $100 for more or less the same features. This is what makes us hesitant to give this a buy recommendation. The price is just way too high at the time of writing (about $160) to make it a good deal when compared to other units in the market.

However, the upside is it works well enough to garner mostly positive reviews from buyers. The Cuisinart TOB-135 has many satisfied customers and this may give you comfort in paying a higher price for the oven.

My toaster oven is only 8 months old. The oven shows erl on the pad and doesn’t function. On Monday I called their service line. I waited over half an hour so then I requested the call back. None. Today Tuesday again I called and after 10 min. I requested a call back I have yet to be called. I had an Nespresso that did not function after 6 months. I called and in a few minutes was answered. I was told what to do. In a day I received another machine while mine was repaired. I then received mine. There was no cost for all this. Here almost 200$ spent no service. I would never recommend a cuisinart product.
