Cuisinart TOB-195 toaster oven

The Cuisinart TOB-195 is being called the Exact Heat toaster oven because there is a sensor inside to monitor the heat so that it is kept consistent and within a very tight range to give you the same cooking results time after time. In other words, the cooking performance is repeatable with the same settings each time. The Always Even Shade control, which is another feature of this oven, works the same way. It electronically monitors the temperature and adjusts it accordingly to give you consistent toasting results from one toast cycle to the next.

  • 1500-watt
  • Timer
  • Automatic shut-off

This Cuisinart model is a bit different in design compared to their other units. It has a stainless steel and brushed chrome look with an electronic touchpad control at the bottom. Most toaster ovens will have the control panel at the side. The touchpad keys include 4 main cooking functions – pizza/bake, broil, convection bake and toast. You can also combine toast with the bagel, defrost or reheat mode for different types of bread. There is an additional 4-6 slice button which will add the right amount of time if you are toasting 4 to 6 slices of bread in one batch. This button offers added convenience and precision to your toasting results each time you do a bigger batch.

The timer can be used with the bake and broil functions. At the end of the cycle, the oven will beep 5 times before it shuts off automatically. You can also choose to turn off the unit by pressing the Start/Stop button mid-way through the cooking cycle. 2 rack heights are available to accommodate different cooking functions. The upper rack has a stop feature to prevent it from sliding out all the way. It is a safety feature to minimize accidents by stopping halfway out of the oven. No auto-slide out is available for the 2 rack slots.

The dimensions of the Cuisinart TOB-195 is 18″ (W) x 17″ (D) x 10″ (H). These are not exact measurements but close as they include the protrusions. The interior dimensions are about 12″ (W) x 12″ (D) x 5.5″ (H). It has a 0.6 cubic foot capacity with the ability to fit in 6 slices of bread at one time. Alternatively, it can take in a 12″ pizza.

Cuisinart TOB-155

The Cuisinart TOB-155 and TOB-195 are similar in design. The big notable difference between the 2 models is the convection feature. The TOB-155 lacks the convection bake function and is therefore, the cheaper model. The color scheme is also different as the Cuisinart TOB-155 uses a stainless steel and black color combination.

In terms of wattage and size, the features are the same. It also has the same 0.6 cubit foot capacity and can toast 6 slices of bread each time.

Should You Buy The Cuisinart TOB-195 Exact Heat Toaster Oven Broiler?

Pros
  1. Warms up fast – It takes only a few minutes for the oven to reach up to temperature. According to an online review that we have come across, it takes only a couple of minutes to crisp up cheese using the broil function. As for toasts, you can have them ready in 3 minutes too on the default medium setting.
  2. Dependable – Unlike some models which have various complaints that they don’t last, the Cuisinart TOB-195 has enjoyed quite a few compliments from buyers about it serving them well for a number of years. It is not uncommon to see reviews that say that the oven is still going strong after 5 years or more.
  3. Long timer – This toaster oven has a maximum cook time of 4 hours. This is much longer than what is offered by other brands. For instance, the Breville BOV800XL only has a 2-hour timer.
  4. Cooks like a regular oven – You don’t need to heat up the big oven anymore for smaller meals. This one can take any type of food you throw at it and have them come up delicious. For the majority of online reviewers, the toaster oven maintains temperature well enough and cooks evenly with no visible hot spots.
Cons
  1. Settings are complicated – This Cuisinart unit is definitely not as straightforward to set as those manual dial-controlled toaster ovens. With just 3 dials like the T-Fal OT247E, naturally these would be more intuitive to use and user-friendly. For the TOB-195, there are buttons to press to set the function, temperature and timer. You will need to read the manual for detailed understanding of each function to get the most out of it.
  2. Crumb tray access – The design can be improved for the crumb tray access. Compared to the Cuisinart TOB-135 which has the tray accessible from the front, this model has it accessible from the back. You will have to move the unit forward or turn it around to slide out the crumb tray from the rear.
  3.  Lacks setting flexibility – Some of the functions have a default time and temperature which cannot be changed. For example, the timer only works for the bake and broil functions. Then, the temperature for the broil function is defaulted to 500°F and cannot be altered. So, you are pretty much stuck with these defaults without the flexibility to change them to suit different tastes and recipes.

As you can see, the Cuisinart TOB-195 does have its drawbacks. On top of that, it is a fairly expensive model as it is selling at a similar price point as the Breville BOV650XL. However, the medium-sized Breville lacks the convection bake feature and can only fit 4 slices of bread at the most compared to this Cuisinart unit.

The one thing that makes the Cuisinart TOB-195 stands out is that it is a durable appliance and a workhorse as per the many customer reviews. So, if you want something that lasts, this may well be a good choice if you can accept its settings inadequacies.
