The DeLonghi Digital Convection Toaster Oven DO2058 has user-friendly controls that make the unit easy to operate. But at the time of this review, it only has an average customer rating on Amazon. What are the complaints then? Let’s take a look at this unit’s specifications and other details to see where the problems lie.

DeLonghi Digital Convection Toaster Oven Review

DeLonghi DO2058

There are 3 slot levels in the interior for the wire rack. That is why you can do 2-tier cooking at any one time. For example, you can utilize the middle and lower rack to bake 2 pizzas at the same time. This gives you the flexibility to cook a bigger quantity per batch. This works well for pizzas with its flat shape because of the limited head room between the two racks.

Other features of the DeLonghi DO2058 are:

  • 1300-watt
  • Digital controls
  • 5 cooking functions
  • Timer
  • Automatic shut-off
  • Interior light
  • Nonstick interior
  • Removable crumb tray
  • Size (approximate): 19″ (W) x 14″ (D) x 10.5″ (H)

The toaster oven uses digital controls with a display screen. The cooking functions are toast, convection bake, broil, pizza and warm. You choose the desired cooking method by pressing the Function button repeatedly until the method that you want turns red. Then, you can adjust your cooking time and temperature by pressing the up and down arrow keys.

The timer allows you a maximum of 3 hours cooking time. This should be more than enough for most recipes. The oven will beep at the end of the cycle and the display will show ‘End’ to signal that cooking is over. There is also a Pause/Cancel button to stop the cycle at any time. Pressing it once will allow you to pause the operation while pressing it twice will switch the appliance off.

The heating elements are located both at the top and bottom of the oven. For the broil function, only the top heating element will turn on. To speed up the cooking, a fan will circulate hot air inside the oven for certain functions. According to the product details, this is expected to quicken the cooking process by 30% to 40% compared to standard toaster ovens.

The capacity of the DeLonghi DO2058 is 0.7 cu ft. It can fit 6 slices of bread per batch or a 12″ pizza on the wire rack.

Should You Buy The DeLonghi Digital Convection Toaster Oven?

Pros
  1. Interior light – This is a feature that many users would want in a toaster oven. However, many models in the market do not have a light to make it easier for you to check on your food. Besides the DeLonghi DO2058, the Cuisinart TOB-260 also have this feature but the price for this model is far higher. A cheaper unit with an interior light option would be the Oster TSSTTVMNDG.
  2. Simple controls – The control keys are pretty straightforward and hence, the unit is intuitive to use just like the Oster TSSTTVXLDG. A manual is provided, but you don’t really need it to tell you how to operate it out of the box.
  3. Bakes well – Cakes, meatloaf, chicken and frozen food are among a wide variety of stuff that you can cook with the DeLonghi toaster oven. It also broils well. Basically, you can use it to do the job of a regular oven.
Cons
  1. Takes long to toast – A few users have highlighted online that the unit takes a long time to toast bread. One buyer claimed it takes 10 minutes to get toasts done while another needed about 6 minutes. As comparison, the Breville BOV650XL can get it done in 3 minutes or so. Other people have also mentioned that the toasts do not come up perfect with uneven shade on both sides.
  2. Poor quality control – We have come across customers complaining about the rack being difficult to slide, unstable as the door is opened, fan quit working and other issues. The problems are varied which doesn’t really instil confidence on the quality control of this model.
  3. Missing normal bake function – The bake function comes with the convection feature and the fan will be turned on as a result. There is no option for normal bake that does not utilize the ventilation fan. Most other models like the Hamilton Beach Set & Forget toaster oven would have a normal bake function on top of convection.
  4. 5-minute timer increments – When you set the timer, it runs in 5-minute increments. It does not allow for more precise setting which is a problem if you want say, a 12-minute coutdown.

There are enough complaints online to make us wary about the toasting capabilities of the DeLonghi DO2058. You may well have to keep your toaster if you are buying this oven just in case the toasting function does not work fast or well enough for you. The various other complaints is also a worry.

So, overall, we don’t think that this DeLonghi Digital Convection toaster oven is worth a buy. At nearly $150 at the time of writing, you can have plenty of options like the Cuisinart TOB-135 which is a more popular model with better ratings.
