The MaxiMatic ETO-113 is a basic unit with a 2-dial control. The top dial is used to choose your cooking mode – toast, bake and broil. The dial at the bottom is the timer and toast shade setting. You can set it to a maximum of 15 minutes. A bell will sound at the end of the cooking time and the oven will automatically shut off thereafter.

There is a heating coil at the top as well as bottom of the oven so that both sides of your bread will get toasted. However, the space between the rack and the top heating coil is just over 2″. So, you may not have a lot of options for the type of food that you cook. The tray size that fits is 9.25″ x 5.5″.

The oven has a tempered glass door for easy viewing of your food. It comes with a bake pan and wire rack. The exterior is white in color.

Should You Buy The MaxiMatic Elite Cuisine?

  1. Small in size – The width of the appliance is only a little more than 13″. Not many toaster ovens are as small as this model if you need to free up your counter space. The Panasonic NB-G110P Flash Xpress would be one of the few with a 13″ width but you will have to pay over $100 for this unit. Most toaster ovens will be about 15″ wide and has a 4-slice capacity. It is indeed hard to get a 2-slice model in the market, especially one that is of good quality.
  2. Reasonable price – The MaxiMatic Elite Cuisine is being retailed for about $25 at the time of this review. Not at all costly for a model with bake and broil function apart from toast. The cheapest that we have come across is still the Proctor Silex 4-slice toaster oven which is about $5 less at the time of writing. If you are willing to pay a bit more, you can get the Black & Decker TO1303SB which is another popular model with its attractive pricing.
  1. Insufficient height – While not everyone can accommodate a bulky unit, having a low toaster oven means you are limited as to the type of food that you can cook. With just over 2″ of head space from the rack to the top heating element, you may not be able to heat up even a muffin. Most models like the Black & Decker TO1332SBD will have an exterior height of about 9″ compared to the MaxiMatic’s 7.5″.
  2. No temperature control – This countertop toaster oven does not have a temperature dial like most do. There is only the cooking mode settings available with no option to select temperature for more flexibility.
  3. Does not toast evenly – Some customers have complained that the toast shade is uneven across the bread. You may also need to turn your bread over during toasting as one side could be more prone to burning compared to the other.
  4. No crumb tray – You will have to turn the toaster oven over to get the crumbs out. A crumb tray is definitely more convenient and most models, even the cheap ones, have this feature. The Oster TSSTTVVG01 is one example of a cheap toaster oven with a removable crumb tray.

The MaxiMatic ETO-113 is mainly bought for its small footprint. It is easy to carry if you are traveling or camping and it will fit in a small kitchen. The price is also a pull factor. But there will be trade-offs that you will have to make. That is why this model wouldn’t be suitable for a large segment of the market. For instance, if you like to bake, you lack a temperature setting for better control. If you cook, you are limited to a 15-minute timer with no stay-on feature which is a hassle for food with a longer cooking time.

Therefore, we don’t recommend a buy for this MaxiMatic Elite Cuisine toaster oven unless space is a real constraint for you. It works but be aware that it lacks a few key features mentioned above that you will have to make do with less. If you are using it only for re-heating and toasting, it may be fine albeit with less than perfect results for your toast. But for other types of cooking, you may like to think twice before buying.
