The Waring Pro TCO650 is a 1500-watt convection oven. Included in the built are 6 cooking functions and they are bake, convection bake, pizza, broil, toast and bagel. These are function touchpads with LEDs. To choose the darkness of your toast and bagel, you turn the selector dial below the touchpads. The shades range from 1 to 6 with 1 being the lightest.
The same dial is also used to change the temperature and cooking time when you select the rest of the cooking functions. A default temperature will flash for the cooking function chosen. You can then turn the dial to change it. Once pre-heating is done, the oven will beep to let you know the desired temperature has been reached. Pressing the selector dial twice will allow you to change the cooking time and if no time is keyed in, the oven will countdown from the default 2-hour setting. The unit will beep and shut itself off after the cooking time has elapsed.
So, how big is the Waring Pro TCO650? Its interior can hold a 12” frozen pizza or 6 slices of bread. It has an interior width of 12” and depth of 10.5”. There are 3 different height positions available for the wire rack and you can view your food through the tempered glass door. Apart from the rack, a baking pan and crumb tray are also included in the box. Unfortunately, these accessories are not dishwasher-safe.
Waring Pro TCO650 vs TCO600
The Waring Pro TCO600 is more old-fashioned with knob controls. It is slightly cheaper than the TCO650 (about $10 less at the time of review) but it lacks the bagel and pizza functions. There is also no separate timer for the toast unlike the Black & Decker TO3250XSB extra wide toaster oven.
The size of both the TCO600 and TCO650 is the same. The main difference just lies in the controls and judging by the number of buyer reviews, the TCO650 seems like a more popular model between the two. After all, you are paying less than $10 more for touchpads controls with 2 additional functions compared to the cheaper unit.
Should You Buy The Waring Pro TCO650 Toaster Oven?
Pros
- Tasty food – Many buyers have given this kitchen appliance a thumbs up. One reviewer on Amazon even did a temperature test and found the oven to have fairly accurate readings. Food are evenly cooked and heat up is quick. Toasts come up evenly browned with no noticeable hot spots.
- Free of nonstick coating – Many toaster ovens like the Breville BOV800XL Smart Oven come with a nonstick interior coating for easy clean up. For some buyers, they see this as a health risk. Since the Waring Pro TCO650 does not have a nonstick interior, this should allay the concerns of the more health-conscious group of buyers.
- Straight-forward settings – The touchpads list out all the cooking functions while the dial changes the temperature and time. There are no complicated icons to work out and the controls are intuitive to use.
Cons
- Loud beeping sounds – The beeps are too loud for some users. And because the oven uses touchpads for the controls, each press of a button will result in a beep too which can be a nuisance. The good thing is the sound can be turned off but if you do so, you will have to live with no warning signal when your food is done.
- No auto slide out – The missing feature here is the auto-eject for the rack when the oven door is opened. You will need to pull the rack out yourself when many other oven models like the Cuisinart TOB-40 have this convenient feature.
This Waring Pro countertop oven is not cheap. You will need to fork out around $70 to $80 for it at the time of writing which, to some people, is kind of steep when you can easily get another convection model for less than $60 such as the Hamilton Beach 31333.
But the Waring Pro TCO650 convection oven has plenty of compliments for its performance and quality with few defects complaints from what we have seen from hundreds of online buyer reviews. It works and it is free of potential hazardous nonstick coating which attracts a particular group of buyers. So, we do recommend a buy for this model if no nonstick coating is important to you. Otherwise, at an $80 price point, there are plenty of options all around.
