Best Convection Toaster Oven

September 22, 2016 //  by Audrey//  Leave a Comment

Small toaster ovens generally do not have a convection function compared to their bigger counterparts. So, you will need to invest a little bit more and get a bigger unit if you need the convection fan for certain recipes or to speed up the cooking time. Below are two of the best convection toaster oven models that you can put on your countertop with their respective short reviews.

Breville BOV845BSS Smart Oven Pro

Breville BOV845BSS Smart Oven Pro

The Breville BOV845BSS Smart Oven Pro Convection Toaster Oven with Element IQ is a newer version of the popular BOV800XL. The main differences are the addition of a Slow Cook function and an interior light to the newer model. So, now the Breville Smart Oven Pro will have 10 cooking functions which will also suggest the ideal temperature and cooking time for you. It will also store your settings in its memory for your next use.

The Slow Cook function will now allow you to cook for up to 10 hours before it automatically switches to the Keep Warm function to maintain a ‘ready to serve’ setting. The oven will also come with a 25-watt interior light which is replaceable. Apart from that, all other features remain unchanged from the older Breville BOV800XL, including the Element IQ technology which detects when and where to deliver the heat for better tasting food. With the convection option, it can also speed up your cooking time by as much as 30%.

Recommendation

Breville Smart Oven Pro BOV845BSSBefore this, we are already of the opinion that the Breville BOV800XL is one of the best toaster ovens out there. With the inclusion of a Slow Cook function and an interior light, this just makes the newer Breville Smart Oven Pro even better. It cooks well as many buyers have confirmed with consistent temperature. Few can beat the Breville BOV845BSS in terms of the number of cooking functions and the more advanced cooking technology. This seals the deal for us for being one of the best convection toaster ovens in the market today.

Cuisinart TOB-260N Chef’s Toaster Convection Oven

If you are looking at high end toaster ovens, the Cuisinart TOB-260N Chef’s Toaster Convection Oven is a close competitor to the Breville Smart Oven Pro. The Cuisinart TOB-260 is similar to the TOB-260N. They have the same features and dimensions although the TOB-260N is known as the newer version.

This Cuisinart appliance has a few more cooking functions than the Breville above by throwing in extra modes like Sandwich and Waffle. But the feature that stands is the Dual Cook function. This allows you to program 2 cooking functions at 2 different temperatures into the oven for it to run consecutively. This is practical for recipes that require different steps to complete.

Another feature that is unique to the Cuisinart Chef’s Toaster Convection Oven is the Speed Convection setting. This allows you to cook without pre-heating. The only other toaster oven that we have come across with this feature is the Panasonic Flash Xpress but that is a compact model for simpler meals.

Recommendation

Cuisinart TOB-260N Toaster OvenNo other toaster oven in the market will let you do a Dual Cook step the way the Cuisinart TOB-260N can. While not everyone will find the function useful, many would certainly have a use for the Speed Convection. If it can save you time, it is a valuable feature that most would rather have. The other convenient feature is the +30s which adds 30 seconds to any cooking or toasting function to perfect your cooking result. This is similar to the ‘A Bit More’ feature found in the smaller Breville BOV450XL. While all the extra features are nice, the limited 3 year warranty by Cuisinart just adds to the reasons why this is one of the best convection toaster ovens to buy.

Which Is The Best Convection Toaster Oven To Buy?

Previously, we would pick the Cuisinart TOB-260N over the Breville BOV800XL because it has more cooking functions and an interior light. But now with the improved version with the Breville BOV845BSS, it has narrowed the gap somewhat to make it harder for us to decide.

Performance-wise, there is really little to separate the two. The many online reviews will tell you that these two toaster ovens don’t disappoint in terms of cooking results. The Cuisinart TOB-260N is only a tad bigger but the difference in size is slight and do not make such a huge difference to the capacity of the ovens. Both will fit a 13″ pizza size.

So, it boils down to functions and what you need. What do you usually cook? Do you have a need for a Slow Cook or a Dual Cook function? Perhaps this will answer your question on which to buy.

But if you have no preference for either function, then it is time to look at the price. At the time of writing, the Cuisinart TOB-260N is cheaper compared to the Breville BOV845BSS. Sometimes, the price differential can be as high as $50 to $60. Given the higher priced Breville Smart Oven Pro, we would pick the Cuisinart Chef’s Toaster Convection Oven because we feel it is not worth it to pay too high a difference for one over the other.

We would also favour the Cuisinart toaster oven because of its longer warranty period. The Breville model has a limited warranty period of 1 year compare to 3 for the Cuisinart as at the time of this review. Given that these are electrical appliances that carry a risk of defects, a longer warranty period is always an added bonus.

Is There A Cheaper Convection Toaster Oven?

waring pro tco650 digital toaster oven

The Breville BOV845BSS and Cuisinart TOB-260N are expensive models. Not everyone will be able to afford a convection toaster oven that sells for $200 and above. So, is there a cheaper option that also works well?

==> Check Price

Yes, you can take a look at the Waring Pro TCO650 Digital Convection Oven which has good ratings and reviews on Amazon. It sells for less than half the price of the two high end models above. Naturally, it has less cooking functions but most of us can surely live without the fancy Dual Cook or Slow Cook function. It is also slightly smaller in size as it can only hold a 12″ pizza.

So, if you don’t mind sticking to the basics, the Waring Pro TCO650 is a good helping hand in the kitchen. It works with touch pad controls with a LCD display and digital 60-minute timer.
